“Some Among the People . . . Said That Nephi Was a Prophet While Others said: Behold, He is a God”

Ed J. Pinegar, Richard J. Allen

On the basis of his miraculous disclosures, Nephi is able to rise in stature in the eyes of many of the people and prevails in his ministry—with some believing that he is a prophet and others that he is, indeed, a god.

A testimony is the priceless knowledge of eternal truths received by the power of the Holy Ghost. As members of the Church of Christ, we can have a witness of many eternal truths. These include the fact that God is our Father, that Jesus is the Christ, that revelation is the pattern for God’s dealings with man, that Joseph Smith was the Prophet of the Restoration, that gospel truths were indeed restored through the Book of Mormon, and many other related matters. By the power of the Holy Ghost, we can know that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the Lord’s Church, once again established here upon the earth, and that a living prophet leads us. The Lord Himself told us that we can know the truth of all things by the power of the Holy Ghost (see Moroni 10:5). When we sincerely bear our testimonies, the Spirit testifies of the truthfulness of our words, for the Spirit bears witness of all truth. The five who are converted by the Spirit bear testimony and many believe on their words. Every pure testimony is equal in the sense that all testimony is born of the Spirit. When we teach with testimony born of the Spirit, we teach with the power and authority of God (see Mosiah 18:26; Alma 17:2–3; 23:6). Never doubt a pure testimony.
