“I Will Show Unto You Another Sign”

Joseph F. McConkie, Robert L. Millet

The word wonder appears about thirty-five times in the Old Testament, and in more than half of these instances it is used as a synonym for the word sign (see Deuteronomy 28:45-46; Ezekiel 12:6, 11). As used by Isaiah in reference to the great “marvellous work and a wonder” of the last days, the word wonder carries with it the idea of a “miraculous” event (see Isaiah 29:14). Indeed, the Book of Mormon has been given to our dispensation as a “sign” and “wonder” to attest the verity of the restoration of the gospel (see 3 Nephi 21:1-7; Ether 4:17). All gospel dispensations are associated with signs or confirmatory evidence of their genuineness.
