“Laying Up… Treasures in Heaven”

Joseph F. McConkie, Robert L. Millet
It is a good doctrine that our works follow us in the worlds to come (see D&C 59:2). Valiant servants in the cause of God are promised that they “[lay] up in store” blessings for the world to come (D&C 4:2-4). Indeed, by such service, James said, the faithful servant could “hide a multitude of sins” (James 5:20). “Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, ... for where your treasure is, there will your heart be also” (Matthew 6:19-21; see also 3 Nephi 13:19-21; compare Luke 12:13-21).
