Literature: Verses 8 and 9 are contrasting parallels. In former days, Nephi would have rejoiced; in these days, he sorrows. In former days, people were righteous; now they are wicked. He probably, though not explicitly, used himself as a contrast; in former days, Nephi1 was revered; in present days, Nephi2 is rejected.
