No doubt Nephi and his brother had been very disappointed when their mission to the land northward had not been fruitful but certainly they could have expected something more encouraging in the land southward. How could the Nephites become corrupted so quickly? While Nephi and Lehi were gone the Gadiantons had murdered the elected chief judge Cezoram and also his son who was elected to replace him. Now the Gadiantons had virtually conquered the whole land.
