There is, indeed, an opposition in all things. Satan uses a righteous tool, unity, in his evil cause of secret combinations. Once again we see that the devil is a master counterfeiter; he specializes in cheap imitations or perversions of true and righteous principles and practices. Notice these imitations or perversions in some of the characteristics of gangs and other groups that terrorize societies: they use new, secret names, oaths and covenants, and secret signs and words; there is considerable criminal activity; they dress like robbers (see also 3 Nephi 4:7), mark themselves (Alma 3:13), and get their ideas from Satan.
Verse 25, as well as Alma 37:27, reminds us that those secret combinations, with their corrupted oaths and covenants, must not be revealed or passed on to others.
