It must remembered that there are two sets of plates called "the plates of Nephi." The secular history of the people was recorded on the large plates of Nephi and this is the set Mormon is referring to in this verse. It is the large plates of Nephi that will demonstrate that the Gadiantons brought about "almost the entire destruction of the people of Nephi."
