Moroni’s defensive innovations had rapidly become standard. (See commentary accompanying Alma 49:5–9.) Most likely from this time on, defensive armor was de rigueur in serious military engagements. The Nephites lost their technological advantage, and the theoretical advantage shifted to other aspects of the battle.
