“Shiblon Takes the Sacred Records”

Monte S. Nyman

Again, little is said of Shiblon. Alma’s blessing to him was short (Alma 38) when compared to the one given to Helaman (Alma 36–37), but his reward was apparently the same as was Helaman’s. He was a good man (Alma 63:2). The brother indicated here (v. 2) seems to be Corianton. If it does refer to Corianton, it is evident he had repented. However, that brother may have been a reference to Helaman.

Moroni’s death, five years after the war ended (v. 3), may have been from war afflictions or from age as discussed before. He would have been only forty-four years of age if appointed chief captain at age twenty-five (see comments under Alma 62:43). Again we opt for an older age.
