“Because of the Exceedingly Great Length of the War Many Had Become Hardened”

D. Kelly Ogden, Andrew C. Skinner

A protracted war can cause cynicism or build faith. Boiling water hardens eggs but softens carrots; so a long, drawn-out war causes some to be hardened, while others are softened in their afflictions. Each of us must decide how anything outside us will affect us, negatively or positively.
