“Wars, Bloodsheds, Famine and Affliction”

Brant Gardner

Mormon summarizes the Nephites as suffering under “wars, and bloodsheds, and famine, and affliction, for… many years.” This description captures the ravages of war on a people who must not only supply soldiers but also food at the very time when war takes farmers out of their fields. In long wars, famine is always a possibility.

Chronology: The war ends with the thirty-first year of the reign of the judges (approximately 63 B.C.).
