The eastern front had been bogged down in a stalemate for over a year, but now Moroni’s strongly reinforced army could take the offensive and push out the Lamanites. The Lamanites didn’t put up much of a fight, retreating steadily until they consolidated at the city of Moroni, apparently their last defensive stronghold in the former Nephite land.
