Geographic: Moroni arrives not just in the “land” of Nephihah, but the “plains” of Nephihah. Clearly the geographic location of Nephihah requires a relatively flat area of land, but the distinction afforded the plains of Nephihah perhaps suggests that not all of the land surrounding Nephihah was flat (Sorenson, 1990, p. 296). A location along the river bed in a valley would appear to make some sense, where a plain might exist between the city and the river, but perhaps foothills would arise on the other side.
