Redaction: Mormon has already used this technique of expressing mixed emotions, reporting both Moroni’s joy and sadness (Alma 7:5, 28:14). Mormon wants us to understand the motivations of these great men and does so almost as a formula. He presents parallel statements, each expressing emotions that are opposite to each other.
