Pahoran cannot send men, but he does send provisions. Gideon’s capacity to produce crops is not restricted, except by the inevitable number of menfolk who are in the army. Nevertheless, such reprovisioning represented a real sacrifice. Gideon must now feed a large population of refugees, and its generosity in sending foodstuffs to Moroni means that the civilian population and local militia are probably on short rations.
