“For the Desire of Power and Authority”

Brant Gardner

Moroni acknowledges wickedness among the Nephites, but he attributes it to those who desire privileged positions. Moroni is not recounting this history because Pahoran has forgotten it, but because Moroni is accusing Pahoran of becoming power hungry. The king-men had tried to weaken the Nephite nation at the beginning of this war. Moroni is unsubtly suggesting that Pahoran’s actions are in the same category and attributable to the same motives.
