“Moroni Wrote Again to the Governor of the Land”

Brant Gardner

Not receiving the desired response from his first letter to Pahoran, Moroni sends another. Mormon did not quote the first letter, but he includes this one, which expresses greater frustration. The letter begins quite formally, addressing Pahoran by name and also by title. The letter then expands to include others who might help in meeting the request.

Text: I include Alma 59:13 here because it rightly forms the beginning of this unit in Mormon’s original chapter. Mormon is preparing to quote a letter from Moroni, and verse 13 introduces that insertion. Mormon does not change chapters with this particular insertion because his organizational unit here deals with Moroni’s actions. To be correctly understood, it requires knowing about Moroni’s first letter urging Pahoran to help Helaman.
