“I Am Helaman, the Son of Alma”

Brant Gardner

Helaman closes with a blessing on Moroni, the cause of freedom, and a colophon identifying himself as this letter’s author. Probably there were no such things as signatures, so Helaman’s declaration gives his identification and authority. Of course Moroni knew who Helaman’s father was. Helaman is not giving Moroni information he does not have but rather is formally concluding this letter by his authority as chief priest.

Text: With the end of this quoted document, Mormon terminates his chapter.
