“Even Until We Were About to Perish for the Want of Food”

W. Cleon Skousen

Now Helaman is coming to the conclusion of his epistle. In this segment of his letter Helaman discloses his fear that the leaders in Zarahemla might have discontinued providing support for the armies in the field. He said it first became apparent when Helaman appealed for help so his armies could liberate the city of Manti. It was one of the strongest Lamanite cities and Helaman needed help.

At the last moment, Helaman's troops surrounding the city of Manti did receive some food and 2,000 troops as reinforcements. But thereafter Helaman was greatly puzzled by the fact that they received no further help or any communication as to why all support from Zarahemla had ceased.
