The next day the soldiers returned without the prisoners they were supposed to be taking to Zarahemla. They said they abandoned their prisoners when they heard that Ammoron had sent a large force of Lamanites to attack the Nephites at Cumeni, and therefore they felt they should return to provide extra strength.
