It is not clear how the leaderless Nephites were able to quickly perceive the effect of Helaman’s attack and take the correct action of re-attacking the Lamanites instead of continuing their retreat. I deduce that, although other captains besides Antipus had fallen, smaller divisions had retained their leaders; these men must have been able to regroup the disoriented Nephites around them. Thus, even though there was no longer a single standard-bearer, the smaller units resumed the initial strategy.
