When the Lamanites came out to engage them, Helaman and his army turned northward. This route would not take them directly back toward Judea—which would naturally have aroused the Lamanites’ suspicion—but would lead the Lamanites past the point where Antipus was waiting and could fall on the Lamanite rear.
