“Lamanites Commenced Labor in Strengthening Fortifications”

Brant Gardner

Moroni achieved his objective of liberating the prisoners and increasing his ranks with the liberated Nephite soldiers. He almost certainly sent the women and children away from the front lines to more secure areas where their labor would contribute to tending crops and providing logistical support for Moroni’s army.

Moroni again employs Lamanite prisoners as slave labor, as he had done in Mulek (Alma 53:3–5). As long as Moroni had to feed and guard them, he has them work on creating new defenses for Gid.

Ammoron is still in charge of his army (Alma 56:18) on the western front.
