Instead of fighting, Moroni waits for the Lamanite guards to come face to face with their hopeless predicament. Perhaps one of the reasons he waited for them to sleep off their drunkenness was to avoid the possibility of drink-influenced recklessness. When the Lamanites awakened in at least somewhat greater control of their faculties, they came to the correct conclusion about their situation and surrendered.
