The 1840 edition expanded “the city Gid” to “the city of Gid”. The RLDS textual tradition has continued with the extra of. This change is probably accidental and not due to editing. Elsewhere the text has instances of both “the city of Gid” and “the city Gid”, yet none of these other instances show any textual variation:
So in each case of “the city (of) Gid”, we follow the earliest reading.
