“The City of Gid Taken Without Shedding of Blood”

Monte S. Nyman

The leadership of Moroni again is evident. Certainly the “profound silence” (v. 17) was a learned characteristic. Perhaps this incident or the previous training was passed down to future generations, since the characteristic was evident in the Native American tribes after the discovery of the Americas in modern times.

Once more the character of Moroni is shown as he is careful not to shed blood (v. 19; see 48:11). We see in the same verse his faith in Christ by his concern for justice (see Alma 48:13).

Moroni had accomplished his desire to free his own prisoners, and had done so without further loss of life (v. 24; see also 54:2–3).
