Who was Laman?

Thomas R. Valletta

When Amalickiah’s men murdered the Lamanite king, Laman was one of the king’s servants who fled to the land of Zarahemla and joined the people of Ammon (see Alma 47:20–29). “Laman and a few others were appointed by Moroni to carry out a strategy designed to recapture the city of Gid from the Lamanites and free the Nephite prisoners held there. Because his Lamanite ancestry would win the trust of the Lamanite guards, Laman was chosen to carry wine to them” (Largey, Book of Mormon Reference Companion, 493).
