The types of battles the two leaders have been fighting have resulted in all-male captives (soldiers) taken by Moroni, while Ammoron, who has captured cities, also has their population of women and children along with the Nephite soldiers and civilian males. Moroni understands this demographic imbalance and attempts to increase the number of able-bodied men who are released.
