Mormon now introduces the dramatic episode of the stripling warriors, sons of the people of Ammon (formerly the Anti-Nephi-Lehies). He breaks off his summary of Moroni’s conducting the war in the western theater to explain this new source of troops. Mormon reminds the reader that the people of Ammon and the Nephite government have a mutual covenant: The people of Ammon provide food, and the government provides protection.
