Jacob, a Zoramite, was a military leader in the Lamanite army and was known for his “unconquerable spirit” (Alma 53:33). Jacob and his army were fooled by a military decoy launched by Moroni. Moroni effectively drew out the Lamanites by ordering Teancum and a small army to march in front of the Lamanite armies (see Alma 52:21–35). Jacob lost his life in a major battle with Moroni’s troops (Alma 52:35).
