“A Critical Time for the People of Nephi”

Brant Gardner

Mormon, unlike a novelist, has no interest in building suspense in this case, so he reveals that the Nephites will eventually prevail. His purpose is to use history to teach a moral lesson: that obedience to Yahweh’s commands brings blessings. In this situation, many Nephites are disobedient; therefore, this war will be more difficult, even though the righteous Nephites will eventually win it.
