“Teancum”

Brant Gardner

The narrative here introduces Teancum as another of Moroni’s trusted and competent captains. He successfully blocked the flight of Morianton’s people, defeated them, and brought them back to Moroni’s camp. Moroni was not vindictive. As he did with the Lamanite army, he accepted their covenant to keep the peace, then restored them to their original lands.

Redaction: Mormon states that the twenty-fourth year of the judges has ended. This may or may not have been the final event recorded in that year, but it concludes the specific event Mormon wanted to relate. Nevertheless, that year saw other important happenings, and Mormon relates them to conclude his chapter.

Chronology:The twenty-fourth year of the judges would be 70 B.C.
