“Moroni Appointed Lehi to be Chief Captain Over the Men of the City of Noah”

Brant Gardner

Mormon records that Lehi is the Nephite captain at Noah, reminding us that he is one of Moroni’s most trusted and capable subordinates, well-seasoned by the battle near Manti (Alma 43:34–37). Lehi’s position here also supports the hypothesis that Moroni had correctly foreseen that the Lamanites would bypass Ammonihah. Not only were Noah’s fortifications stronger, but its defenses were under Moroni’s best captain.
