“They Fled into the Wilderness, and Came Over into the Land of Zarahemla and Joined the People of Ammon”

Brant Gardner

These former servants certainly realized that they would never be captured alive to tell their tale. It is interesting that they elect to go to the land of Zarahemla to the people of Ammon. We know that they ended up with the people of Ammon, but we cannot be certain that this was their intention. It would be interesting if they had known of the people of Ammon as a separate settlement as that would indicate a greater line of communication between the Nephites and Lamanites than we suppose. It is more probable that they simply fled to the land of Zarahemla, and were eventually taken to the land of Jershon to be with Ammon’s people who were so recently of the same land and culture as these fleeing servants.
