“I Cannot Recall the Words Which I Have Spoken”

Brant Gardner

Vocabulary: When Moroni says he “cannot recall” his words, he means he cannot take them back. He is not using the more modern sense of “remember.”

Culture: Because Moroni had sworn his oath in Yahweh’s name, he cannot modify his offer, despite the advantages of accepting the surrender even without the condition of permanent peace. He is bound by his oath.
