Zerahemnah here focuses on Moroni’s condition: “We will spare your lives, if ye will go your way and come not again to war against us” (v. 6). Zerahemnah is willing to surrender, thus accepting defeat, but not to accept a permanent peace. Zerahemnah attempts to separate the two promises, accepting Moroni’s offer but not the condition attached to it.
