“Moroni Took All the Command”

Ed J. Pinegar, Richard J. Allen

As noted, Moroni is only twenty-five years old when he is appointed chief captain over the Nephite armies. His contemporaries include Alma, from whom he seeks the Lord’s advice concerning the conduct of the campaign to protect the people against the Lamanites (see Alma 43:23); Alma’s son Helaman, a powerful ally in the fight for liberty and the organizer and leader of the two thousand sons of Lamanite converts beginning around 64 BC; and Pahoran, the governor at Zarahemla.
