“Man Became Lost Forever”

Brant Gardner

Alma describes mortal existence—appointed to death and “lost forever.” For rhetorical effect, he is describing a world that is post-Eden and pre-atonement. We are doomed to die; and with no atonement to reconcile death and sin, then we are truly “lost forever,” doubly doomed by both death and sin, either of which will keep us from God’s presence.
