“And Live Forever”
The thought would be more complete were it to read “and live forever in his sins.” It is not endless life that the Lord sought to prevent by placing the cherubim and a flaming sword to guard the tree of life; rather, it was endless life in an unrepentant state. Thus God in his mercy granted Adam “a probationary time, a time to repent and serve God.”
