“They Drink the Dregs of a Bitter Cup”

That is, they face the full effects of the justice of the Almighty God (Mosiah 3:26). A justice which could have been mitigated by their own repentance through the divine grace of the Holy One of Israel.

“In the Strength of the Lord Thou Canst Do All Things”

As the Apostle Paul declared, “If God be for us, who can be against us?” (Romans 8:31.) How singular it is that Lamoni, who a few days before thought Ammon to be more than a man, now realizes that his strength rests in the God of heaven! We are reminded of the admonition given the youthful Joseph Smith:

“For although a man may have many revelations, and have power to do many mighty works, yet if he boasts in his own strength, and sets at naught the counsels of God, and follows after the dictates of his own will and carnal desires, he must fall and incur the vengeance of a just God upon him.”

(D&C 3:4).
