“The Spirits of Righteous Are Received into a State of Happiness”

Brant Gardner

Nevertheless, some differentiation results from the good or evil that we have done in this life. Although the final judgment has not yet occurred, our acts in mortality determine our state between death and resurrection. Righteous spirits are “received into a state of happiness, which is called paradise.”

Translation: “Paradise” has its lexical roots in Persian mythology, and Xenophon, (427–355 B.C.) a soldier and historian, imported it into Greek. As a result, it was available for use in the New Testament, which is where Joseph Smith encountered it.
