“Alma commanded his missionary son Corianton to repent. He had disobeyed mission rules by leaving his proselyting area to go after a woman. One of his first problems leading up to his immoral behavior was pride. He was boasting in his own strength and wisdom. ‘It’s my life; I can handle this!’ and then the tragedy ensued. In a way, pride is a denial of the Fall and the need for the Atonement—in short, it is a rejection of our dependency on Christ” (Ogden and Skinner, Book of Mormon, 2:34–35).
