Alma did not protect his sons by sending them to easy missions but took them with him to one of the hardest. Shiblon’s faithfulness was tested by bondage and stoning. While death by stoning was a form of biblical capital punishment, obviously it was not fatal to Shiblon. It suggests a picture of people hurling stones at Shiblon, while he managed to retreat.
