I Shall Have Great Joy in You; I Have Had Great Joy in Thee Already

Ed J. Pinegar, Richard J. Allen

Alma has great satisfaction in his son Shiblon. The supreme joy of parents flows from the righteousness of their children—just as in the case of Heavenly Father and His joy in our obedience. Shiblon epitomizes steadiness, faithfulness, and diligence. His consistent obedience portends a continuation of his loyalty in the future. We should at every opportunity give our children “P-I-E”: Praise them honestly and genuinely. Instruct them in the ways of the Lord. Encourage them to be faithful to the end. There is great joy in edifying and uplifting our children. It’s important we recognize the good in young people and encourage, energize, and motivate them to attain their divine potential.
