“It is Easy to Give Heed to the Word of Christ”

Daniel H. Ludlow

The Liahona was given to Lehi and his colony to direct them in their journey to the promised land. All they needed to do was exercise faith in God, and the Liahona would show the direction they were to go. Alma compares living the laws of the gospel with following the guidance of the Liahona: “… it is as easy to give heed to the word of Christ, which will point to you a straight course to eternal bliss, as it was for our fathers to give heed to this compass, which would point unto them a straight course to the promised land.” (Alma 37:44.) Thus Alma indicates it is relatively easy to heed the word of Christ—just keep the commandments. However, he warns Helaman and also us not to “be slothful because of the easiness of the way.” (Alma 37:46.)
