Redaction: Alma repeats the same basic information he has already explained. As I read this passage, Alma had this structure in mind when he began to instruct Helaman (vv. 8-10) but was sidetracked into his vision of the future, a point he had perhaps not originally intended to include. To pick up the point again, Alma repeats the basic argument that the plates are preserved for a wise purpose, have already convinced many Lamanites, and may convince “future generations” (his own Nephites?).
