“Contend No More Against the Holy Ghost”

Brant Gardner

Amulek concludes his discourse by exhorting the people to remembrance. They must take action to achieve faith, that they have heard truth preached to them, and—interestingly—that they have received the witness of the Holy Ghost of the truth. Whether they had “contend[ed]” in the past against the truth, which made them vulnerable to Zoramite teachings, or whether Amulek senses by the Spirit that some of them have listened to him but resisted the witness of the Holy Ghost that very day is not clear, although either possibility is intriguing.

Amulek does not linger over this point but stresses that they must “take upon you the name of Christ,” thus accepting Yahweh-Messiah as their spiritual king and becoming his people.
