“The Spirit of the Lord Hath Withdrawn from You”

One of the immediate consequences of sin is the withdrawal of the Holy Spirit, a withdrawal which leads to feelings of guilt and pain and emptiness (compare D&C 19:20). Moroni taught that “despair cometh because of iniquity” (Moroni 10:22). When one is void of holiness he opens himself to the influence of the unholy.
