“Now Is the Time and the Day of Your Salvation”

D. Kelly Ogden, Andrew C. Skinner

Amulek emphasized the urgency of his message: “Now is the time and the day of your salvation.” Scriptures teach that a thousand years in our time is as a day in God’s time (Psalm 90:4; 2 Peter 3:8; Abraham 3:4). Someone has calculated that 12,000 months, or 365,000 days, in earth’s time is equal to one day in the Lord’s time, or 1,000 years in our time is 24 hours in God’s time. Five hundred years in our time is 12 hours in God’s time; 250 years, 6 hours. One hour of celestial time is equal to 41 years and 8 months in our time. One minute in God’s time is over 8 months in our time. On that scale, if we live to be 70 years old, we will have been out of the presence of God for 1 hour and 40 minutes. Amulek said that “this life is the time for men to prepare to meet God.” We have on average about an hour and 40 minutes to work out our salvation. We have no time to waste.

Time flies on wings of lightning;
We cannot call it back.
It comes, then passes forward
Along its onward track.
And if we are not mindful,
The chance will fade away,
For life is quick in passing.
’Tis as a single day.13

Actually, according to the above calculations, life is not even “a single day”; it is a small fraction of a day by heavenly reckoning.
