At this juncture of Alma's parable of the seed, the humble, poor, persecuted people among the Zoramites are filled with questions. Some of these are highlighted in the first verse.

It is obvious that Alma is not going to get diverted with a wide variety of questions about the parable of the seed. He first wants to straighten out an erroneous misconception of the Zoramites that they can only worship God in one of the synagogues which they helped to build, and from which they have recently been evicted.
